Surrey Quays promotes safety and security for local cyclists
Last Thursday cyclists visiting Surrey Quays Shopping Centre were offered a free MOT for their bike at a cycle road show.
The road show also involved the Police Safer Neighbourhood team, Decathlon Sports Superstore and Southwark Cyclists; free advice was provided on bike safety and security and the Police offered security marking of cycles.
Ian Moore, Centre Manager at Surrey Quays commented “In addition to general cycle advice provided to shoppers, 20 cyclists had their bikes security marked, which are then registered on a national database, and a similar number had their bikes checked over by experts adjusting brakes and tyre pressures etc as required. It was a very successful event and one that the centre intends to repeat.”
The centre has worked with Southwark Cyclists at the scheme on a number of previous occasions with local people being offered cycle training and escorted cycle rides around the area.
The shopping centre’s proposals to extend the scheme include new and improved cycle connections through the site and enhanced cycle parking.
