TUESDAY 20 DECEMBER
Mayor's Charity
Christmas is a time for giving as well as receiving and Surrey Quays Shopping Centre likes to do both.
As well as inviting donations for Surrey Docks Farm from shoppers visiting the centre’s giant snow globe attraction, the centre has also generously donated £150 to the Mayor of Southwark’s Common Good Trust.
The trust has been active for the last 32 years and helps the needy of Southwark. Their mission is to help members of the community who find themselves less able to help themselves, from the very young to the old, from young people leaving care to people suffering from long-term illness.
Volunteers from all fields of life unite in their common interest to help others via the registered charity.
The charity which collects at the shopping centre every Christmas, has received donations totalling in the region of £600 a day on previous visits; this weekend the charity was at Surrey Quays to collect a cheque from Ian Moore who commented ‘The centre is proud to support such a worthy cause as The Mayor of Southwark’s Common Good Trust and pleased to host another Christmas fundraising event with the Mayor, and past Mayors, in attendance.”
Cllr Lorraine Lauder also commented "I wish to thank Mr Ian Moore and Surrey Quay's Shopping Centre for their donation and continued support of the Trust in helping the less fortunate in the Borough; we collected around £900 over Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the centre".
